Northern Class 331 East:West unit swap

This week, the 17.19 Leeds - Skipton has switched from a 333 to a 331. A bit cosy. Hopefully next week it will be a 6-car formation.

Seems as though 331011 is the chosen one for the transfer, 010 is out and about.

XotGD is does look like the 1719 is supposed to be a 6 car but we will soon find out!

Talking to my line manager last week looking likely that 6 car running out of Leeds won’t be happening next week - more likely June/July time as there are still issues to be sorted out

That’s unfortunate. There was a 6 car test run out last night so there are a few details that clearly need sorting.

I do wonder though if the 333s will start on the Doncaster services with more 331s around the triangle in the meantime. Presumably it has been quite some time since some of the Doncaster drivers and guards were trained on them so the 333s might have to start running there so competence on them isn’t lost.

It looks as though both Doncaster diagrams are booked as 333 from Sunday, so I'm assuming this'll be the case.

Was absolutely rammed this evening. If we can't have 6, we need 4.

Looks like it is being took off its double set this evening and replaced with 028, the diagram ends suddenly at Lime Street tonight so looking promising for the "in order numbers crew!"

So, the loco has arrived at Allerton, and 331010 has worked ecs from Lime St to Allerton.

Should be on its way soon.

Edit: Left one minute early!

It’s showing on Traksy as being at Edge Hill, I guess it’s waiting for the 13:24 Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle pass, then it’ll take the path an hour later.

RTT Now showing as cancelled between Edge Hill and Neville Hill due to a problem with the traction equipment

It now says it is at Wavertree Junction 142 mins late so looks as if it’s heading back to Allerton

It seems that 331010 is going to be on the west for ever, how many attempts is this over the last few months? 3?

Don't know, all 3 times they seem to get it out of Allerton to Edge Hill sidings to run the loco round and something goes wrong and it goes back to Allerton

Maybe barriers and a 37 on each end Vs coupling directly to the unit? I'm surprised they haven't tried it the "old fashioned" way

Just looked (after prompting by my son) and can see one of the Doncaster circuits is a 333 this morning and at lunchtime a second one is swapped on. As a commuter on that line I am pleased, but I don't envy those one the peak Skipton services if only 3.

I didnt expect them to be 333s today except for the 23:33 Leeds to Doncaster ready for the morning
