A public consultation process is underway regarding Derry~Londonderry train station.

Subject to funding four options are being considered: refurbishing the existing station, relocating to the adjacent former Waterside station, a site at Ebrington and a "Waterside Link" site. The latter two locations would use the pedestrian Peace Bridge as a key access.

There seems to be a lot of support for relocating to the former Waterside station, a historic building.

A brochure is available detailing the advantages and disadvantages of each of the four options. It also features diagrams. It may be viewed on the Translink website.

Public Consultation - Derry~Londonderry Train Station

We have made considerable investment in the railway line in the North West over recent years securing the long term future and sustainability of the Derry~Londonderry line.

There is further infrastructure work planned for 2014 between Derry~Londonderry and Coleraine which will see the implementation of a new passing loop and this will allow us to extend our hourly train services from Belfast through to Derry~Londonderry making the service even more attractive to use. This enhancement is due for completion early 2015.

In addition to significant track improvement and safety works, we also want to provide attractive passenger facilities and have identified a series of options for a potential new train station.

If the funding becomes available we will endeavour to undertake further feasibility and scoping work to determine the full level of investment needed for such a project and the potential social, economic and environmental impact.

View our brochure>> for details on the 4 options we have developed which include:

  • Refurbish existing station
  • A new Ebrington Station
  • Relocation to the original Waterside Train Station
  • A new ‘Waterside Link’ Station
