From Woolwich Arsenal to Kings Cross, I tend to use the Thameslink as don't need to change - at least if the timings can be made to work

You know TfL's bus fare pricing level is specifically to get people to use buses over the Tube, right? The idea being that it's cheaper to provide extra bus capacity than Tube capacity?
That’s alright as a long term plan and maybe extra buses are planned to operate for the Northern Line closure but not for short term disruption. TfL may think it best to have a consistent policy of not encouraging tube passengers to use buses during any disruption.

TfL categorically does not have such a policy. The reason they don't "do" acceptance is simply that it would be very complex to codify it in the Oyster/contactless system. When everything was paper tickets, they did do acceptance.
