Hi All,

I found this Northern Rail pass on a train yesterday along with a few other items which a passenger clearly left behind by accident. I have redacted any details (apologies for picture quality as my phone is old) but it doesn't have the person's name on it.

Can any kind Northern employee/train enthusiast tell me

1) What is the name of this pass?

2) Is this valid as a means of travel? Clearly he wouldn't be able to get through the barrier on exit without it

3) Anyway of tracing who it belongs to (to return this and other items)? Or when he realises he has lost it, does he simply ask for another and I will discard it

Thanks Eric

I would suggest you hand in all the items you found to a Northern station (or if you were travelling with a different operator, that operator) and they will be able to process it as lost property.

If you found it on a train, why didn't you hand it to a member of staff?

Why did you not hand these items in to a guard on the train on which you found them? It's really poor that you took off with someone elses items.

What you need to do now is hand these items into a station, preferably one run by Northern if possible, as a matter of urgency.

Why does it matter if you just found it?
3) Anyway of tracing who it belongs to
If I was being cynical I'd suggest that you were looking to use the pass for your own benefit... Surely the obvious thing to do is hand it in, not pocket it?

Cos the train was rammed and the station I alighted at is unmanned.

Thanks for your really helpful suggestions. Won't be posting here again.

Fair enough, but you might have said.

Thanks for your really helpful suggestions.
My suggestion is to parcel up whatever you've found and then post it all to "Freepost Northern Railway" (with or without a covering note) and so let Northern sort it out.

Forum members have made some legitimate comments but if you had told us that the train was rammed and you alighted at an unmanned station then some of the replies would have been different.

If you feel that a post has overstepped the mark, then please report it by clicking the 'report' button in the bottom left hand corner which will alert the Moderating Team to take a look at it.

This is also a good idea to send it into Northern. Ideally with a cover note saying you found it lost on a train.

All Northern services have a guard so quickly altering them and handling them the property as you got off would also have been an option.

I think the best course of action here is for the pass to be handed over to any National Rail ticket office. Let's just leave it at that.
