You can begin Driver training at 20 with Northern but will not be passed out until you turn 21. The post will work to former ATN conditions as Darlington is an eastern depot.

The post training salary given is the rate for newly qualified drivers, it raises to £38181 after 1 year (I'm sure it's 1 year anyway).

Well only 6 month to wait then. Hopefuly there will be vancancy for a one based at Newcastle. After all Newcastle is much easier and nearer to get to than Darlington from home.

I live in Chester-le-Street.

I cant think of anyone that would travel 78 miles to work although I wouldnt mind been based at York. After all I would love to live there some time in my future.

I'm sure northern run a strict 30 minute commute rule.

This must rule out a lot of people

It's now 60 minutes as stated on the website. Check out the part about being a Driver - I think it's in the Working for Northern section.

i think if your prepared to relocate they should always have a look at you.. I know for the job i just went for i actually wrote out in the further information box that moving would not be a problem and it shouldnt be..

though it may get missed if you just put it in your address area..

I've just looked at the link provided, but I didn't see a trainee position. Has the deadline gone?

Thanks!

The deadline is for 14/03/2011, however the job seems to have disappeared off website, i am still completing my form online, as i got in before it went. I have emailed Northern to see if its still valid.

Knowing my recent luck the job will be pulled, i have already passed the testing at Doncaster last year, just need to pass an interview with a train company now;)

I wonder if it's vacancy withdrawn, or simply too many applicants.

I received an email this morning, job has been withdrawn due to change in business requirements, no further recruitment planned this year in Darlington. Bugger.

Could be internal transfers, or maybe some extra work which had been predicted hasn't materialised. Presumably there was a course planned, I wonder if its still going ahead for other depots? Its unfortunate for those who have spent time applying for Darlo though. Maybe you should ask for your applications will be kept on file?

I think they've got a lot of applications at the mo - massive backlog, just sifting jobs from January at present.

I never got as far as sending my form, i was into day 4 of filling it out and finishing the spell checking, when i noticed the job had gone off website. I emailed then and got the reply, now no traincrew recruitment planned for Darlington this year, i have emailed back to see what recruitment is planned for rest of their routes. I've passed the assesment day for driver just need to find a job now.

Ah, t'internet must take longer to reach us on 'tother side of pennines....

Fri 12:14hrs
The vacancy you originally applied for has now been withdrawn due to a change in our business requirements. I can confirm after reviewing the Recruitment Traincrew Plan for 2011, there is no further planned recruitment for Darlington this year. This was totally unplanned and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you.

Northern have just posted quite a few vacancies. Though they will probably pull 'em all.

Well, let's say they usually withdraw 40%. Answer... scattergun at the ready, only safe solution to avoid more wasted effort is to apply for them all ;)

Plenty of vacancies now on the Northern Rail website.

Revenue Protection Assistant jobs at Newcastle and Middlesbrough vacant. However I bet its for those who are already trained up which annoys me.

RPA jobs are usually entry level, not many transfer internally to those jobs they tend to go to new starters

Yep. Certainly RPA is a straightforward job, only real training for it is on the ticket machine, and chances are, for those who use this forum, you will already know most of the retail course elements.

RPI on the other hand is a lot more indepth and requires knowledge of cautions, MG11 fraud investigations etc, but even that is recruited off the streets by several companies, as is evident at Euston - with Virgin Trains' wonderful, cheerful, warm, friendly ticket barrier.
