Hi,

I'm hoping that someone in the know, or someone who has been in a similar position to myself, will be able to offer some insight.

A few months back I applied for trainee driving position with Northern. It was so long ago, and I've received no email other than the usual 'thank you for applying', that I'd forgotten all about it. This morning I logged back into the application portal to find that my status has changed to Talent Pool after Shortlisting - which sounds promising!

However, this is only after the initial application, I have have not done any assessments.

Having looked throughout the forum, I can't seem to pinpoint an answer to my question. All similar questions appear to refer to those who have passed the application and assessment stages.

So basically, is this the usual procedure and for what reason? Can anyone share a similar experience and what happens subsequently?

There has been no email to explain what happens next or to inform me that I have progressed to the talent pool. So I'm at a bit of a loss, basically!

Many thanks

Mine was for Manchester but in the description now says Blackpool which is rather random, as I don't live anywhere near Blackpool?

Have you ever had a DM interview? Even pass the assessments?

I'd drop HR an email, asking for confirmation.

Thanks for the replies. This was for the Leeds depot and it remains that way.

No DM interview or assessments at all, as of yet - or communication received regarding either. I completed an application form and that's it. I'm tempted to make contact with HR but wary of being black marked as the guy who can't follow procedure/keeps pestering them.

At a guess, I'm assuming I'm on hold until a) a their course time table is ready, or b) another vacancy here becomes available.

Contacting them regarding a query won't cause you any issues. I have been in contact with HR regarding a query.

You would normally have to attend an DM Interview as your next step.

The next stage is a Managerial Interview.

The stage after that is the Assessment Day.

The stag after that is the medical.

Clear these and you'll be in!

In respect of contacting HR, I genuinely wouldn't worry about it.........I must have phoned them every couple of weeks - I start my training on Monday!

They liked your application however there is only a limited number of trainees who can be trained at any one time so there's a backlog. This has an effect on the whole process so the key is to be patient, it's a waiting game. If however you feel the need to get in touch then do it. They won't hold it against you. Good luck
