Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Wigan Wallgate (25/02/25)

Couldn't see a thread for people who had applied this role so thought I'd make one. Who's applies and anyone heard back yet?

I did mine right on the deadline! 10th March. On my account it just says 'application received'.

Mine says the same, fingers crossed something gets said in the next week or two!

It may be a while yet, 12 weeks is around the 2nd of June. Hopefully sooner but the railway is never quick!

Oh wow, only 3 available posts? Mine still says application received so I guess its time to kill that hope lol

For a trainee driver role? Do you mean internal candidates in other roles, like conductor or depot driver etc?

Liverpool assessment and interviews finished on Tuesday so I guess that freed up the ‘talent aquisition’ staff to now screen the Wigan applications.
I’ve heard a couple of numbers requirement wise for Wigan but it’s true a lot of people do try to get moves there.
The way I see it is if people were on the waiting list on moves to Wigan then these vacancies wouldn’t have came up.

What sort of numbers have you been hearing? I agree, you wouldn't think they would advertise for trainees if they had internal transfers ready to move, but who knows on the railway!

There is no "waiting list". Drivers' put in transfer requests as and when vacancies come up.

There has been a waiting list for a few years now at Wigan. I know a couple of drivers who were waiting. This has gone now.
I know of seven drivers leaving or having left this year. A couple more won't be back due to illness. And a number left last year. They cleared the waiting list

So does this mean the vacancies that were available have now been taken up?

No. There is no waiting list now and seven drivers leaving this year with those vacancies to be filled. Also more to go later and early next year

Ahh right, thanks, my application still says under consideration, I have my psychometric and time is ticking on it now. So hoping I will here back soon

Nope, the hr team is very very small considering the size of the company as a whole.
