Last week, a team of men were attaching corrugated plastic sheeting to form a roof for Platform 6 at Norwood Junction. This platform has an exit to Clifford Road and is furthest from the ticket office. Platforms 4 and 5 handle the busy suburban traffic (Southern and Overground), with platform 3 (Down Main) used by the Thameslink stoppers.
If platform 6 is to be brought back into use will it be for the suburban services (and popular for commuters living in Woodside)?

Platform 6 at Norwood Junction is in constant use, however platform 7 on the other side of the island platform has been out of use for well over 40 years.

Wasn't platform 7 for services over the Norwood Spur Junction to Beckenham? I don't think it was ever electrified and has probably been out of use for closer to 100 years. I think the track was left in place because it was used by coal traffic to Norwood yard until the early 1970s.

My mistake. I looked yesterday. It is the roof over platform 8 that is being replaced (there is still a gap at the country end). The track approaching the platform is overgrown with weeds and shrubbery and it becomes a siding, ending in a bufferstop.
Since NR would hardly spend capital on a disused platform accessed by a useless track (no third rail), can we presume that the work on platform 8 is preparation for the changes to Windmill Bridge Junction and East Croydon station?

Do you mean Platform 7?

Don't think Platform 8 at Norwood Junction has ever existed.

Platform 7 (although it has no signs) forms an island wih Platform 6. The building accessed from Clifford Road, with a platform facing the overgrown track, is being re-roofed. The numbering sequence would make that Platform 8

We don’t have a platform 8 at Norwood Junction.

It's another one of those projects that's been forgotten about/scrapped because of COVID

The talk at work is that the CARS project has been scrapped indefinitely, especially as the current train service and train lengths don’t warrant it anymore.
