I have been listening to some ELP[Emerson , Lake and Palmer] and krautrock bands like Kraftwerk, Gila from Germany. One recommendation I have is Faust - Faust IV [1973] for the experimental folks out there.

Some great music came out of Germany in the late 60s and 70s. Many people are not aware Kraftwerk’s first three albums. They’re worth finding on YouTube. Or you can try their previous bands only album Tone Float - Organisation.

I have listened to their debut. It's quite different in style than their later day more electronic focussed albums like Autobahn or ComputerWorld. I guess one of the reasons for their low publicity is the fact that the band itself has disowned and distanced themselves from their earlier work. I don't think they even played songs from their first two albums during their peak touring era.

I was listening to some live/bootleg versions of Cream and a german musician called Deuter who mainly focussed on ambient soundscapes blending Indian instruments as well. Cream had a decent run with [3?] their albums. I believe Clapton was at his peak as part of this group. His solo careers had some gems like Layla but otherwise, it was unfocussed, IMO. A great guitarist also needs a great support group [atleast] to make good music.

I also listened to some albums by Area ,the Italian rock band. Their debut work is great though following works vary in quality.

Most Hawkwind albums are great.
I am gonna re listen to their discography from start again. I didn't complete last time. Hurry On Sundown is from their opening album right, I remember liking that track.

Yes it is, although ironically I don’t like the first album and I’m not that keen on the 2nd either. The third album Doremi Fasol Latido is amazing though

I will reach that album tomorrow. I listened to their debut today and whilst I liked couple of songs quite much, it's still an average album compared to their peaks. There is no greatness of Master of the Universe kind of level yet.

Ditto Hendrix drifting away into ‘Crosstown Traffic’ etc..

The one guitarist of that era who never stopped developing was Jeff Beck. It was mind-blowing watching him simultaneously pick with his thumb, control the tremolo arm/whammy with a couple more fingers and violin notes (increase attack) with his little finger on the volume knob, all while playing a melody in a single string bend and tapping harmonics on the frets.

‘Nadia’ is a fabulous track but my favourite album is the monster ‘Guitar Shop’.

I haven't heard much from Jeff Beck until now, definitely not a full album. One other guitarist of note that comes to my mind [though he came in the 70s] was John McLaughlin. Whilst he produced dazzling work with his band, his forays into more world music saw him restraining himself and playing the basics when he was part of Shakti after his original band Mahavishnu Orchestra was over. Sometimes, It's tougher for a great guitarist to restrain themselves from soloing than doing the act itself.

I listened to Hawkwind's second and third album.
I personally think the third is a step down from the brilliant second album. Yes, the opener 'Brainstorm' and 'Time we left this World today' are great, but other tracks feel kind of average to me. It's not a bad album, but considering what Hawkwind was capable of in their peak era, I expected slightly better.

Ah, well I’ll have to disagree with you on that one. I regard Doremi Fasol Latido as being an excellent album throughout.

Favourite Hawkwind albums in no particular order;-

Doremi Fasol Latido
Warrior on the Edge of Time
Church of Hawkwind
Chronicle of the Black Sword
Space Bandits
Electric Teepee
It is the Business of the Future
Alien 4

Spaceseed featuring Harvey Bainbridge is also worth checking out. As are various solo albums by Nik Turner and Tim Blake.
And Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters by Robert Calvert.

And you may wish to investigate Incubus Lovechild as their stuff is very Hawkwind inspired and is excellent. And possibly then try Astral Magic, which is a project by a Finnish chap who wears his love of Hawkwind on his sleeve. My favourite Astral Magic album is Mystic Dreams Reversed

Doremi Fasol Latido isn't bad but I found it a stepdown from the great In Search of Space whose Side 1 can match any classic rock record tune by tune. I was listening to the longer 'Space Ritual' as well. It has good live variants of songs stuffed between band monologing about space, such as, sometimes. A mixed bag, IMO. But then, Hawkwind have like 36 albums I think.

Unfortunately I don’t get on with You Shouldn’t do That. It’s clearly intended to be listened to while stoned.

John Cale - Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood (2012)
Neil Young - Trans (EP) & Johnny's Island (recorded 1982, released 2024). Disc 12 of Neil Young Archives Volume 3. Over time I eventually learned to love Neil's Trans period
VR SEX - Cyber Crimes (EP, 2021)
Weak Signal - Fine (2024)
Juliana Hatfield - Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO (2023). I don't normally like covers albums and not that fussed about ELO, but I love JH so this one works for me...

Are there any bands from India we should know about ?
