I am planning to go Nuneaton in a couple of weeks. I am wanting to know whats the best platforms to be on for freight and photos. And the best times to be there as well.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the times gazza, most of the guys hang around the south end but the north end is pretty good as well.
Sometimes it is difficult to get good images at NUN because of the wires and angle of sun unless you want a Pendo.
It only costs a couple of quid to go on a London Midland service to Atherstone or Tamworth for a couple of hours.

+1 for Atherstone if you want photos. Nuneaton is a real pig, whereas you have tilting approaches on both sides of Atherstone (does mean you have to be ready, as you get little warning)

Whenever I've been waiting for a train at Nuneaton there always seems to be freight moving. The local spotters always seem to congregate at the south end of Platform 2.

really have to watch the lights on platforms 1 , 2 and 5 and be prepared to hop platforms, again the photos are not clean due to all the gantrys and various platform furniture but in the right instance can actually add to the scene IMO, as for the two centre platforms, you can get clean shots of trains approaching from the north , i have some on my fotopic page but you are generally talking pendolinos, voyagers and the odd mail unit, atherstone is a better place for photography but you will miss all the traffic on the leicester - birmingham line so its your call
