Off-peak single

Looking at Chester to London, 19/11, on TPE site, I cannot find any services on which the off-peak single is offered when a return journey is requested.

Is this the 'saver half'?
NRE offers the fare for the same requested services.

Am I making a basic mistake or is this an error in the system?

Why is that?

Surely, as impartial retailers, all TOCs should offer these fares.

I'm fairly sure that on occasions I have paid more than I could/should have as I wasn't aware of the availability of the off-peak single in combination with an advance.

Try asking the DfT or the ORR to enforce the existing rules (or to close the loophole if they say it is allowed).

Impartial retailers can only offer what they are permitted to sell. I believe the TSA allows the creator of certain fares to decide who can sell them.

The former 'Saver-Half' (SVH) can only be purchased online.

Just to clarify, there are a few web sites which offer these tickets. I don't have a current list to hand, but if you select the trains you want on nationalrail.co.uk, that will give a list.

I don't, personally, know if this is because Virgin have requested it only be available with those sites, or because some software suppliers don't feel it's worth their while to provide the option.

The SVH Off Peak single can only purchased online and must be purchased as part of a return journey, ie you cannot buy it on its own.
