I have two GWR-published books from 1926, titled Castles and Abbeys. No, nothing to do with trains but with actual castles and abbeys in England and Wales - mostly situated in the areas served by GWR. There was a third volume: Cathedrals; but that never came into my ownership. Hardbacks, each around 240 pages, with extensive descriptions of the buildings and illustrated by various maps and drawings.

As I'm in the process of merging two households into one, these books are on the list of things that are nice to have but for which there is no longer any room. I see four options...

1. Place them in a railwayana auction.

2. Place them in an auction specialising in old books

3. Sell them to a railwayana dealer

3. Sell them to a dealer specialising in old books

If any member of the forum has experience with buying and selling such items what would you recommend?

Sir Charles Oman the author?

A dealer based in the U.S. currently has the three book set in "very good" condition priced at £82.65 plus a shed load of postage.

Other dealers opportunistically asking a lot more for "near fine" copies of just the "Castles" title.

So potentially the two books have some value, but you might now want to cancel that Caribbean cruise! ;)
