I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the 'Allocations, Diagrams and Timetables' section, apologies if it needs to be moved.

I've been looking in detail at the current service patterns of certain TOCs, and I was wondering if it was possible in any form to do the same for TOCs in the past? Are there any websites, resources or books that I could use to find out what the service patterns were for, as an example, Connex South Central in the year 2000? If clarification is needed then let me know.

In terms of 'books' have you thought about using a second-hand timetable? There always seem to be loads kicking around in stalls at various preserved lines (often not in the main gift shop).

Agree, by far the best resource.

Also try eBay and occasionally stands at model railway exhibitions.

I find pouring over old service patterns fascinating. Often helps to debunk myths about the "good old days" of BR with how relatively few trains they ran compared to the number on the network today (which hasn't fundamentally changed since the 80s and 90s in many places)
