I think boosters are unnecessary and are keeping this ridiculousness going, wasn’t it two jabs to freedom?

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

A quick look at this page shows several posts slagging off Starmer for something or other. But what has he actually been asking for since Omicron emerged? All I can see is him asking that the government brings in pre-departure checks for flights, which the government then did. And he's called for the booster rollout to be ramped up and... well that's it really. I can't see anywhere where he's called for a lockdown or even more restrictions. Meanwhile Sturgeon has asked people to work from home for the next month.

Starmer deserves the criticism he gets, he’s been as useful as a chocolate teapot, give it a few days and he’ll be begging for an unnecessary January lockdown

There's enough misinformation about vaccines circulating, no need to add to it. Boosters are almost certainly the reason why we've seen a drop in hospitalisations and deaths while cases have been increasing.

and are keeping this ridiculousness going,
No, they are the way back to normality.

wasn’t it two jabs to freedom?
Yes. But boosters were always a possibility given vaccine protection wanes over time.

Seems to me that some people will criticise him regardless of what he says.

Starmer has got form for calling on unnecessary restrictions and lockdowns to be imposed. If he has stopped doing so then that is fine but his reputation still precedes him.

No, they are the way back to normality.

The first 15 million people getting their first does was supposed to be the way back to normality, yet despite this being achieved many months ago normality has still not returned. Given how many times the goalposts have already been moved, how do you know that the goalpost as it is now is really the way back to normality and will never be moved again?

Where am I adding misinformation? Boosters should be optional, nobody should be coerced into taking something they don’t need.

No, they are the way back to normality.

And this isn’t misinformation? I don’t call vaccine passports ‘normal’ the government literally said two jabs back to normality, nothing about boosters.
Yes. But boosters were always a possibility given vaccine protection wanes over time.

And this only proves the point of the vaccine hesitant, or double jabbed people who are fed up with this nonsense continuing.

Seems to me that some people will criticise him regardless of what he says.

Maybe if he had challenged the government on how harmful lockdowns and restrictions have been to our most vulnerable rather than him constantly stating he would have done xyz two weeks earlier maybe he wouldn’t get all the criticism, the fact is Starmer has been begging for harder restrictions, England would have passports or have a lockdown for the unvaccinated now if he were in charge, most people have moved on from Covid and want to return to our normal lives.

I never said this: No, they are the way back to normality. @quantinghome said this

To be fair we never really got the chance to see what May would have been properly like as PM, she was dealt a terrible pack of cards by her predecessor. One way or other, she'd have been better than Johnson. There's certainly evidence of thought and analysis in what she has been coming out with. Anything has to be better than Peppa Pig!
What a slur on Peppa Pig, comparing her to that buffoon.

Yes although he isn't begging for an actual lockdown yet, it wouldn't surprise me atall if within the next week or so as cases of Omicron continue to rise(even if the general number of Covid cases don't particularly rise or stay relatively static) he does so again. And wouldn't surprise me atall if the press and media support and promote his whining, like they did back in October last year. Every day for about a week or so the likes of BBC News and ITV News would have his whining and begging for an IMMEDIATE "circuit breaker lockdown" as the top headline on their news bulletins. It infuriated me. And then what happened, Johnson went and caved in and ordered another wreckless damaging lockdown!

What’s the point of discussing the current Labour leader in relation to this, or anything else? He and the Labour Party are an irrelevant pressure group and he will be gone after the next election it not before.

Exactly. The message was that vaccines are the way out. Now almost a year after the initial rollout (and with coverage high, and boosters now also rolling out which were never mentioned) we’re still unsure whether we will be in lockdown again by Xmas.

It’s high time for this madness to end, and the truth is that the libertarian wing of the Tories will be more relevant to delivering this than the Labour Party.

It's not misinformation it's an opinion, shared by many I suspect. I get the reasoning behind third primary doses but I'm less convinced when it comes to boosters; I suspect it's the former keeping hospitalisations and deaths down given what we know about those most likely to suffer serious adverse consequences from Covid.

No, they are the way back to normality.

I seem to remember being told the same when the vaccine roll out began. Without the political will to end this charade we'll continue to be at the mercy of variants and (alleged) waning immunity.

Yes. But boosters were always a possibility given vaccine protection wanes over time.

Surely it's antibody levels that wane over time?

You said boosters were unnecessary. This is misinformed.

I agree that vaccines should given only with consent.

Opinions can be misinformed. "Leeds is the greatest football team" is my opinion, and also misinformation. But it's an opinion we can agree to differ on without anyone getting hurt.

Spreading an ill-informed opinions about vaccines is actually dangerous. I will not agree to differ on it.

shared by many I suspect.
You are probably right, sadly.

Boosters are unnecessary for those not in a vulnerable category, that is not misinformation, don’t write something off as being misinformed just because it doesn’t fit in with your opinion.

Your opinions included?

From the very outset Starmer has been a fan of more, not less restrictions regardless of the cost to many of his support base (i.e. working class). So any criticism is more than deserved.

Seems to me that some people will criticise him regardless of what he says.
No you are right, I for one would definitely slag him off regardless. Because he is crap, has always been crap, and will doubtless be crap in the future. He is the dream opposition leader for the Tories. But that discussion is for another forum.

Exactly, and this is why Starmer deserves all the flack he gets, he’s there simply to make Labour more unelectable by the day.

I’ll also never forget what he said to the pub landlord in Bath

Keir to the concerned small businessman: I don’t need to listen to people like you.

But how ill-informed is it? As per my previous response surely it's only antibody levels that wane? For immunocompetent individuals this isn't an issue presuming the vaccines do what they're claimed to do, and elicit a good T-cell response. In fact, one could argue that those saying everybody needs a booster are putting science conveniently to one side here....

You're correct about Leeds incidentally (the misinformation part just to be clear!).

You are probably right, sadly.

You can't blame people for thinking this way, even if they haven't the first idea what an antibody or a T-cell is. The messaging has been terrible and a lot of people feel as though they've been lied to, which really they have.

Exactly this, the government messaging throughout 2020 was that vaccines will be our route out of lockdown and restrictions, and nearly a year on since the first vaccine rollout and just weeks away from 2022, we are still uncertain and no closer to return to our pre Covid lives.

The libertarian wing of the Tories better stand up in 2022 or else I can see Reform swooping in to split the vote in any future election.

I would love to see what a venn diagram of those getting aghast about potential rail cuts and those in favour of more masks/lockdowns/social distancing etc.

Is there any evidence that protection against serious disease wanes over time?
No, to the best of my knowledge. I've had the original two vaccines and felt crap afterwards. I don't wish to be subjected to this regularly without a very good reason.

Your opinion runs contrary to the advice of medics and scientists in the field. That's why I'm calling it out as misinformation.

Yes, sometimes advice from doctors turns out to be incorrect, but unless you can furnish some evidence to back up your opinion, I'm going to stick to my general rule of thumb which can be summarised as "settled view of experts or someone on the internet. Who to trust...?"

On this forum, the circles would barely touch; in the rest of society, much closer to a perfect circle.

Yes. It is extremely easy to do a google search on this.

The reduction in cases, hospitalisations and deaths in age groups which have received the booster is important corroborating evidence.

Indeed. The reasoning is appealing: “we were told vaccines were the way out, so I had them, then I was told that my 11yo needed vaccinating, then that I’d need a booster after six months, then after three months… And in early December 2021 I still can’t make Xmas plans.”

For many this will quite understandably reduce faith in the the efficacy of vaccines and turn people away from them. If they are so good why do we keep needing them!?

Alarming parallels with people thinking the First World War would be over by Christmas, just that nobody realised which Christmas.

As I recall the scientific consensus was that vaccinating children had little to no benefit and it shouldn’t be recommended. Then the politicians went ahead and recommended it anyway .

The same medical experts who said two jabs right? The same experts who keep pushing for lockdowns and further restrictions?

Experts can be proven wrong and the last two years have shown this.

Correction: Your opinion runs contrary to the advice of select medics and scientists in the field who the media like to quote. That's why I'm calling it out as misinformation.

There are plenty of much quieter ones who disagree with this narrative. Don't forget the media have a vested interest in keeping this going as long as possible.
