Anyone experienced similar problems when trying to do Online Check In 24 Hours before flying?

Daughter is flying tomorrow:

Manchester (05:55) KLM 1070 / Delta DL9546 - Amsterdam
Amsterdam (09:50) KLM KL661 / Delta DL9170 - Houston (IAH)

She only has carry on hand luggage so doesn't really want the pallaver of queueing tomorrow morning with all the people checking in with Hold Luggage. If she can check in online she will be able to just head straight through security.

She managed to get to the Check In page and it wouldn't let her check in - it said check in with KLM. When she tried to check in on KLM it said she needs to check in with Delta...............

Any tips greatly appreciated. She has rung Delta who said everything looks fine with her booking - and advised her to check in at the Airport tomorrow! Exactly what she is trying to avoid.............

I believe there is no Delta Check In Desk at Manchester so assume it will be a KLM Check In Desk. The other alternative is the Self Service Check in Stations but I've a feeling she'll run into the same problems she's having with online check in.

Thanks - will try there. Also just realised there is an Aviation Sub Forum on here - hopefully the Mods will move it to the right place! Thought I'd try here first as I've always received quick and concise answers on Rail Forums.

She will definitely check in with KLM at Manchester as they are operating the first flight over to Amsterdam, and are a close partner of Delta.

Unfortunately, online check in may be disabled as she's flying to the US and they may want to check visa/ESTA/covid manually. She could try contacting KLM on Twitter but otherwise just arriving early will be the only recommendation.

Well I've double checked and it seems she has actually managed online check in for the Manchester - Amsterdam Leg and has been assigned a Seat Number but it seems the Amsterdam - Houston Leg is the problem and she cannot do online check in for that leg. I did read that on multi leg flights if you are checked in for the first leg then you are checked in for the full journey but I see no evidence of a seat number allocated.

As it's a flight to the U.S in my experience most of the time when something like this happens it means the pax has been selected for some extra security/questions. She may well find she will be pulled aside in Amsterdam for this before she is allowed to board.

Usually if you can't check-in online, it means that there's some reason for denying it. As mentioned above, it can be for additional questioning (on US-bound) flights, but it can also be because of overbooking by the airline. The flight is priced at nearly 2500 EUR for Amsterdam-Houston, so I strongly suspect that the flight is overbooked.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem checking in at Manchester, and if she can, it's best to do it there rather than waiting until she gets to Amsterdam.

Well thanks all - I'll let you know how she gets on tomorrow. I might try a few things online tonight to see if it makes any difference. I did read somewhere that on codeshares there are different 6 figure PNR Codes for the different flight numbers (or airlines). So if you can obtain both the KLM and Delta Codes they should work on at least 1 of the airline websites.

She'll be able to check in at transfer desks in AMS.
Yes this would be my advice too. Most likely is that she's being selected for secondary screening, which requires a physical boarding card as a 'SSSS' annotation is printed on it. (This is standard and nothing to worry about, happens to c. 10 passengers on pretty much every flight).

Well I'm not sure what the actual problem was but eventually managed online check in and allocated seats but unable to print boarding passes - website advised to check in at the airport and get them printed at the airport. Joined the large queue at KLM Desk but noticed some people being directed to Priority Check In as they only had Carry On Bags - so she joined that queue and was checked in with Boarding Passes within 5 minutes. So hopefully hassle free out to Houston but there is always the return which is next week - Houston Hobby - Atlanta - Paris CDG - Manchester. I did notice a direct flight on the departures board to Houston with Singapore Airlines but assume she didn't book that one as prohibitively expensive.
