To quote myself from the HS2 delay thread:

Perhaps an extended termination at OOC will spur TfL (and any sponsor with alternative funding and borrowing arrangements to HS2) to deliver an expanded connectivity solution there than would otherwise have been built?

I'm not necessarily referring to new rail stations per se, but possibly improved walking routes to possible OSIs like North Acton, East Acton, and Willesden Junction, or improvements to local buses

It will arguably depend on the other development in the area. Presumably if none of the walkways you suggest become official, people would still try to make those journeys. How many pedestrian access points is Old Oak Common station going to have?

I can't see money being spent upgrading any of the nearby stations though. What existing budget would it come out of?

I expect the Overground routes are going to get very crowded with both HS2 and GWML passengers trying to change at Old Oak.

EDIT: And is there scope to run a footpath from the north end of East Acton platforms towards the bridge over Old Oak Common Lane?

Probably. I imagine it's a tossup whether East or North Acton will be the advertised interchange for the underground.

North Acton appears closer (marginally) but East Acton may be preferred for capacity/safety as it has facing platforms as opposed to North Acton's island.

Since it's an OSI and most for partners will take the EL instead, I imagine the walking route is more significant.

There is of course the track of the now-severed New North London Line, which looks like it could be converted into a walking route to North Acton station.

I thought that would be used to terminate some Chiltern services as Marylebone is at capacity and any extra services would have to go to OOC. However no provision seems to have been made in the current station design.

Pretty sure its still there. It was never going to be in the HS2 station itself but separate.

Provision has been made in the sense of space being left empty for future Chiltern platforms, but nothing is actually being included in the construction

I still think the best answer is a people mover from Willesden Junction, and a better interchange with more platforms there (which is really needed anyway), rather than new stations which aren't really interchanges, don't particularly serve anywhere else, and would slow down and clog up the lines. The people mover could even carry on to an improved North Acton.
All frighteningly expensive though, and in the south so politically difficult. If only they had built the Crossrail depot so it could easily be built over........

Yep. The planning gain from the railway lands around Old Oak would have raised billions for HS2 if they had planned it properly, rather than ceding those profits to private property developemts. It happened in Canary Wharf. And the rest of docklands. And around Stratford. And it's going to happen around Manchester Piccadilly/Ancoats and around Curzon St too.
