I think it's used pretty regularly for moves to Ilford depotIn commuting on Greater Anglia, I can only remember being diverted onto that loop many years ago. That was to get round a failed train, and taken at low speed.

High on a pedestal for 150 years of continuous reliable service along with their brilliant Victorian mechanical computers. (OK - Interlocking)Where they belong, in the museum.

Isn’t the Avoider the most convenient way? It avoids crossing the Up Electric line.Only because there has been an issue with the points on the Down Main getting into the depot I believe. Might have been rectified now.

Used to have a set of empties mon-fri that was down main to down avoiding every morning in the previous may timetable then back to the main at gidea park for some reason. Could never work out why.
The majority of ECS moves to Ilford Depot run via the Down Avoider, it’s unusual to go via the Down Main route. I believe those points have been rectified now, there was an incident a few weeks’ back where a VSTP was input to run across from the DML - Ilford Depot and had to be set back due to the aforementioned points not being in use. Much work has been undertaken between GA, MTREL and NR to reduce the risk of reactionary delay in this area with the uplift in services over the previous few years. In the upcoming May timetable change, there’ll be some further tweaks following direct feedback from Control teams managing the PM Peak recently…Only because there has been an issue with the points on the Down Main getting into the depot I believe.
