I have seen 5 143's today at Landore but not sure what numbers as to far away to read.
I assume with the end of PRM dispensation, that TfW 143 operation has now ceased.

When was the last one in service?

143625 is out working today coupled with 150282 and 143606 is working with 150279 today so far.4 sets were out working yesterday as well they have dispensation until the 31st but doesn't necessarily say they will work until then though.

All the details re day to day working and run down are in this thread:-

The way things are at the moment they will run up until the final day.

Slightly OT but I did the driving experience on 144017 at Appleby Frodingham at the weekend. It was very good value, particularly as you get to go all round the steelworks.

Sounds superb :) How much does that cost?

It’s £200 and very much worth it. Can book via the website and looking at it lots of spaces available this bank holiday Monday.
I can absolutely see it being worth every penny - just quite a few more pennies than I have at the moment. Will add it to the ever growing 'must do' list. Thanks for the info :)

143606 is now at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway with 607 to follow in due course. I’m unsure if any more TfW 143s will be saved for preservation but it’s likely that soon enough the unlucky ones will be put on low loaders to Sims Newport for disposal

It might have just been one of those amazing dreams, but I am sure I read somewhere that all of the Welsh 143's had future's which avoided the scrap yard?

I’m not sure but would be nice if they all survived like the 144s. Of course sadly three of the GWR 143s were scrapped earlier this year

8 are being preserved and the other 7 going off for scrap.

Disposals are already underway with 605 the first to go for scrap this morning.

Thanks very much for that info. It must have been one of those wildly exciting dreams I was having when I heard that all of them were being saved ;) :D

The GWR ones that were at Landore went to a scrappy in Hereford hence the doubt, I think
The three GWR 143s that were at Landore went to Newport for scrap as did all bar one of the TfW 142s. The three ex-Northern 142s that TfW used for spares went to Wye Valley Metals in Hereford for disposal

I am sure I am not alone in finding it hard to keep track of the whereabouts and status of every Pacer unit.

I list below those I believe are in an 'intermediate' state - i.e. not scrapped, not explicitly preserved and not moved to another end state (e.g. a school or Police training unit) - confirmation or any corrections or clarifications would be most welcome:

142003 - Eastleigh Works
142007 - Eastleigh Works
142014 - Eastleigh Works
142032 - Eastleigh Works
142047 - Gascoigne Wood
142056 - Eastleigh Works
142071 - Heaton
142089 - Eastleigh Works
143601 - Landore
143602 - Landore
143607 - Landore
143616 - Landore
143617 - St Philips Marsh
143618 - St Philips Marsh
143619 - St Philips Marsh
143622 - Landore
143623 - Landore
143625 - Landore
144001 (55824 only) - Worksop
144002 - Doncaster Belmont
144005 - Worksop
144012 - Doncaster Belmont
144015 - Heaton
144021 - Doncaster Belmont

Some of these feel suspect, particularly the class 144s.

Comments?

Thanks

Went past Bridgend in the car the other day, there is an ex Northern 142 on a short strip of track next to a warehouse or something, i presume its for police training or the like? could anyone clarify this, and identify the unit?

Another planet...

I'm not sure you can safely say that all the 144s have survived... just none of them have met their end YET. I certainly don't hold out much hope for the Evolution prototype (144012), unless that group based at Tyseley whose name escapes me take the toilet car to allow their tours to be accessible.
