panel on loco cab roof

strange one this can anyone tell me what the square panel on most loco cab roofs are. it looks about 1ft square, is it some sort of ariel or something to to with TPWS can anyone help.

What loco, what route, I very much doubt it's on all of them

More likely to do with the NRN radio.TPWS equipment is underneath the cabs well thats where they are the units i drive

Indeed, anything TPWS related will be in the cab (instruments/controls) or below the cab (recievers).

The NRN pod is on most (if not all) DMUs, and classes 20 (DRS), 50, 58, 59, 60, 66, 67 and 70 have them, maybe more.

The only vehicles I can think of from the top of my head that don't have the pod are 150/1s, class 47s and HST power cars. These use an aerial for the NRN.

I wasn't sure about some classes like 73s, 91s and 31s, but I'm sure 33s 37s, 56s, 57s, 86s, 87s, and 90s don't have them either, but 92s do.
