Hey guys!

after 10 long months i passed out of my train driver training today so i just wanted to take this opportunity to come and say a big thank you to all who right from the beginning gave me the sound advice and encouragement i needed to get through it all! (you know who you are)

i honestly believe i wouldn't have got through it without you all!......for those thinking of applying, applying or even in the process i would say stick to these boards like glue! all the advice and help needed to get through the whole process is here! there are some extremely knowledgeable people on here so utilise them!

thanks again guys your help was very much appreciated!

Congratulations Red, well done. I start my training on the 27th of this month and passing out seems so far away but looking forward to it. I bet it seems so long ago since you were waiting to start your training like me.

Cheers Paul

u excited?????? lol

I'm full of different thoughts and emotions about it. I am excited about my new career but nervous at the same time. I leaving a job where I have good friends who I will miss and I think it's normal to feel like that going from the known into the unknown. My brain has a tendency to dream up all kinds of situations and reasons why the course is going to be too hard for me! I'm just going to follow the advice like u said and give it my all and hopefully come out the other side

That's similar to my story keegans. ??????

I have relocated my family for this job and too have an 11 month old girl.
Me and the Mrs talked about it and it was a no brainer. This job will give our family stability and means we can hopefully get a house deposit now.
Also I get to be a freaking train driver. Only job I ever thought about doing growing up and finally here it is. So so excited

change is always a thing to be nervous about mate! it's only natural but at the end of the day you have done what you see as best for you and your family and there is a lot to be said for that! far to many stay in one place as it's the easiest or most comfortable thing for them to do!.....but just because it's easy it doesn't mean it's right so i take my hat off to you mate

hey you have got this far mate and that's because OTHERS have had enough confidence in you to do and handle what's required!! so just remember that when you have negative things like that floating around in your head!...give yourself some credit chap!.......it is hard you are right!......but was anything easy worth doing?.......i had the same thoughts as you mate but when i had the handshake last week after completing the difficult course it felt that much better because i knew i had worked my behind off and earned it!! and you will too mate :)

Thanks Red2005, your right it's easy to not put yourself out there and take chances to better yourself we are only human and change can be a scary thing. The assessors and managers must believe I have what it takes like you say so i need to work hard and prove them right. I bet it was a great feeling once you were told you had done it!!! Thanks for the support and kind words mate.

Hi there, we are doing the right thing for our family as others have said it will be hard but hard work and taking chances will pay off for us in the end. I love your comment "Also I get to be a freaking train driver" lol!! I know I can't wait to get started. Are you starting a course,
On a course or what? If about to start are you at Leeds? When do you start etc?

Oh not long now then mate you will have to keep me posted about how it's going! York is a nice city from what I've seen! I am going to be working for Northern. I live in Brigg, lincolnshire but will be stopping in a hotel a few nights a week to give me some rest bite from travelling to leeds and back every morning and evening. I will get more time to study whilst staying there.

Is Leeds going to be your depot then or just for training? I applied for northern about 2 years ago as my local but ended up moving to Devon anyway.
