Apparently someone has been hit by a freight train on Ketton level crossing this evening. The crossing is on the line between Oakham and Stamford, adjacent to the former Ketton & Collyweston station. The road is a minor road going from Ketton to Collyweston, the crossing also separates Ketton proper from the adjoining village of Geeston. There is a footbridge not far away but not at the crossing itself, which is full barriers monitored by the adjacent Ketton signal box. Road and rail line both closed at the moment.

Speculation mode: As the signal box is adjacent and it's full barriers, wouldn't be surprised to learn that some youth has arrived to find the barriers down and jumped over them in a fit of bravado.

It's a castle cement train going to or from Ketton sidings.

Sadly, just this evening alone, there has also been a person under a train near Trowbridge & someone was injured by an EMT service - supposedly whilst on the edge of a platform - at Mill Hill Broadway.

Any more details on the Mill Hill incident? There seemed to be a lot of confusion over what had happened. The lines were only closed for 15 minutes while it was all investigated, and the station it self was made non-stopping for another half an hour at least. A customer on-board the EMT train involved reported a loud thud before emergency breaking.

A loud thud was reported from aboard an EMT service which then made an emergency stop after passing Mill Hill Broadway. Railway Chaplains report on Twitter that it appears someone was struck whilst sitting on the platform with their legs dangling over the edge. As a relatively educated guess, I should imagine they were seriously injured, and the station was closed whilst they were treated & removed. The only alternative I can think of is that they were blown to one side (either onto the platform or I tentatively would say beside the rails) by turbulence, and the train struck something they were carrying, resulting in the noise.

Thanks for the details.

There is only one public footpath crossing in Ketton, it's about 100 yards west of the road crossing, and is a UWC on a green lane, popular with dog walkers, so most likely that is the location of the accident.
This path was formerly part of the Jurassic Way long distance path, but the official route now uses another path that crosses the line 100 yards east of the road crossing by means of a foot bridge.
