It's been brought to our attention that the driver and guard who were involved in this sad incident have decided to raise money for the Samaritans during their run in the Taunton Half Marathon on Sunday 7 April. Their donation page is available here for anyone who is interested in donating to this worthy cause.

I've been asked to post the following message an update:

Adam and Gary, who were involved in the sad affair did the Taunton half marathon today and £3,906.65 was raised for the Samaritans from an initial target of £500! Well done to anyone tuned in here that may have contributed.

One of members from the area, @bnm, has brought to our attention than inquest has been opened in to the case:

An inquest has been opened into the death of a 23-year-old railway employee who was killed on train tracks near Exeter.

Matthew Charles Ryder, from Exeter, died on Thursday, March 28 after he and a vehicle were struck by a train at a level crossing in Stoke Canon.

Scattered among them are Pepsi and Dr Pepper drinks cans and toys. Heartfelt messages beside the flowers include messages from his family, referring to their 'little boy'.
