Just splitting from this thread,

I see one of the challenges on the ECML is balacing speeds and connectivity. Recent re-casts have provided challenges for direct services between local stations such as Newark - Retford.

To avoid filling up this tread.

Would a local service be impossible to path with all the expresses?

Northbound it could go on the slows but then unless it is looped in the country side faster services can't pass until the Retford stop. (Grantham is another place that expresses could pass but it isn't that far from the 4 track)
Southbound faster trains could pass at both Retford and Newark.

No sure if demand exists for an local EMU service as the car parking place like Newark probably puts people off using the train for the shorter journeys, but could it help balance out the desire for a faster service to Leeds / Edinburgh and the demand for 2tph to London from Newark and Grantham? (spaced out).
