Photo locations near Bangor, north Wales

Has anyone got any recommendations for taking photos of trains in the Bangor area, north Wales? I have a car so have quite a bit of flexibility. I have had a quick look at Trainspots but that only appears to have options near Llandudno.

I would like to avoid railway station platforms.

You could do worse than Bangor itself. From the top of Bangor mountain you get a panoramic view of the station sandwiched in-between the two tunnels. Try looking for spots off Ffriddoedd Road. The approaches to the Britannia Bridge along the Menai Straits are quite picturesque but it might be hard to get a good view of trains through the trees. The Britannia Bridge itself is a bit grim with the dual-carriageway road above the tracks.
