Don't see too many pigs ears on signals these days. Are they still used in any part of the country now?
London Underground has them in places although with the standard policy now to stop 20m in rear of a signal makes pigs ears obsolete.

Scroll about halfway down the page, there is a picture of a signal (WP54) and it explains there. It's for when we've drawn right up to the stick it makes it easier to see the aspect.
They are quite obvious 'in the flesh'. Have seen a stick with the main green aspect not displaying but with the pigs ear still displaying the aspect and you could see it from quite a distance.
James, I worded it badly. I know LU draw up closer than we do but didn't realise you drew close enough to make pigs ears still useful.
