Does anyone know if the white-on-blue LCD departure boards for platforms 3/4 at Blackfriars are going to be replaced or improved?
The current arrangement of platform monitors is very unsatisfactory, for three reasons:
1. When arriving at the platform, the platform-centred location of the new colour screens for platform 2 makes it look like one screen is for platform 2 and the other for platform 3. This is abetted by the platform 3 screens not being aligned with the platform 2 screens along the platform, meaning that when you come through the ticket barriers, you don't immediately see the platform 3 screens! Not a problem for regular commuters, but very confusing for less regular users.
2. The continued use of "first train Train Terminates Here" for services scheduled for a quick turnaround (primarily Catford loop and Sunday Sutton services). The display of this for any train scheduled to depart in service shortly after arriving without being split confuses the irregular user. When the screen at the barriers appear to say "Bedford" and moving down the platform you see another sign saying 1st train terminates, no wonder the irregular user is confused.
3. Given Blackfriars is about to become an important interchange between services from the north, services via elephant & castle, and services via London Bridge, the lack of any "summary of departures from ALL platforms" is problematic.
Does anyone know if there are plans to improve the situation?
