I have noticed that there are a few places in the UK that are served by more than one bus route with the same exact number.
I am surprised that nothing is done to stop this as it must be very confusing for passengers. I can see many passengers in these places getting on the wrong bus by accident and ending up miles away from where they want to go.
I can think of the following examples so far:
EDINBURGH (1x duplicate):
• X5 - Lothian Buses - Edinburgh to North Berwick
• X5 - Stagecoach - Edinburgh to Dunfermline
GLASGOW (7x duplicates):
• 4 - First - Glasgow to Broomhill
• 4 - Stagecoach - Glasgow to Ayr
• 17 - Glasgow Citybus - Glasgow to Duntocher
• 17 - Mcgills Buses - Glasgow to Paisley
• 38 - First - Glasgow to Easterhouse
• 38 - Mcgills Buses - Glaagow to Spateston
• 38A - First - Glasgow to Easterhouse
• 38A - Mcgills Buses - Glaagow to Spateston
• 64 - First - Glasgow to Carmyle
• 64 - Mcgills Buses - Glasgow to Halfway
• X36 - First - Glasgow to Stirling
• X36 - Stagecoach - Glasgow to Ardrossan
• X78 - First - Glasgow to Newton Mearns
• X78 - Stagecoach - Glasgow to Troon
SOUTHAMPTON (7x duplicates):
• 2 - First - Southampton to Millbrook
• 2 - Go Ahead - Southampton to Fair Oak
• 3 - First - Southampton to Thornhill
• 3 - Go Ahead - Southampton to Boorley Green
• 6 - First - Southampton to Hamble
• 6 - Go Ahead - Southampton to Lymington
• 7 - First - Southampton to Townhill Park
• 7 - Go Ahead - Southampton to Sholing
• 8 - First - Southampton to Hedge End
• 8 - Go Ahead - Southampton to Calshot
• 9 - First - Southampton to Sholing
• 9 - Go Ahead - Southampton to Langley
• 11 - First - Southampton to Weston
• 11 - Go Ahead - Southampton to Totton
WINCHESTER (1x duplicate):
• 1 - Go Ahead - Winchester to Southampton
• 1 - Stagecoach - Winchester to Stanmore
YORK (1x duplicate):
• 4 - First - York to Acomb
• 4 - Hunts Coaches - York to Skegness
Can anyone think of any others? What other places in the UK are served by more than one bus route with the same number?
Note i am not talking about routes which have competing operators or are jointly operated or have different operators on weekends and evenings. They must be completely different routes that go to different places.
Also i am only talking about numbers which are exactly the same. So for example 1 / 1A / A1 would not count as the same route numbers.
Many thanks.
