Hi there,

I’m looking for any sort of guidance or help with my letter.

Should I post the letter or send it by email to the Southeastern prosecutions team? I’m not sure what’s the right thing to do.

Welcome to the forum!

Have you received an initial letter from Southeastern yet? If you have can you post a redacted copy of it in this thread so we know what they've said in it.

If you haven't received a letter yet, then DO NOT SEND ANYTHING at this point. This is because you don't know what Southeastern are going to say or ask in their letter and sending an unsolicitored letter means you could incrimnate yourself when you don't need to do so. Also, unles you've got a case reference numner it's unlikely that Southeastern will be able to match up the letter you send with your case.

It's a good idea to have something prepared for when Southeastern's letter does arrive, and I think what you've written is fine but don't send it until you get their letter.

Thank you @Hadders ! Yes, I received a letter:

Southeastern is committed to ensuring all journeys are paid out of fairness to all passengers.

On (Date) you gave your details and were questioned by a member of rail staff with regard to an incident on Southeastern. Southeastern is reviewing your case and may consider pursuing a prosecution.

We invite you to respond with any comments about the incident. Please complete in full the second page of this letter, attaching any comments send it to the above address within 21 days. Please respond to this address or the email given below.

You can also contact the prosecutions team at: [email protected]

You may wish to seek independent legal advice on the information contained in this letter.

Failure to respond to this letter will lead to the matter being progressed without further notification. If we do write to you again, we may seek a contribution to our costs of recovering the amount owed.

Yours sincerely,

And there’s a case reference number at the top of the letter.

Let me know if the above is okay or if I should post an image of it redacted!

Thanks for confirming. That's Southeastern's standard initial letter.

What you've written in reply is fine but wait a day or so to see if any other forum members make any suggestions.

As well as the good advice above not to tell any more lies, you need to ensure you pay your correct fare from Dartford going forward. It is potentially going to be cheaper by using Oyster or contactless payment than using physical tickets.
