Can anyone summarise the ex TfW ones please? AIUI TfW received and operated one fewer than was planned as there seems to have been an issue with one of the driving cars. Would I be talking gibberish when I think a class 319 driving car was sent to Canton as a replacement for a 769 car, but obviously never entered traffic ? (T I A)
769426 had a replacement DT 'donated' from 799001 (the first Porterbrook ’HydroFlex’ unit).

Unlikely to be repainted as the loan of the two former TfW sets was only supposed to cover the period during which the eight Northern units would undergo C6 overhauls. That was planned to be 14 months, starting from last January. So the first of the loan arrivals is already 6 months late.

My favourite thing so far is that we are on refurb 2 of 8... So far the two replacement units have done absolutely nothing, are six (nearly seven) months late and have cost the good old tax payer 400K

Great!

You have missed the best part, which is the 1 unit that has returned seems to be even more unreliable than the others and than before it went to Kilmarnock.

How are Northern still paying well anything for these units? Its time to call it, nice and reliable ex-TFW 158s going off lease soon....

This thread goes back to Dec 2016, these entered service in May 2021, just over 4 years ago, still awfully unreliable but sadly nothing is available to replace these yet so Northern can't bin them off yet. Regarding TFW 158 these won't sadly be available for some time yet.

Has there been an extension? In another thread there was suggestion the first TFW 158s go off lease early 2026.

Its somewhere in this thread that the deal for the two extra ones has come in at somewhere around 400k, not free from the ROSCO for providing such terrible trains, I suppose at the end of the day they are not responsible directly for the unreliability but even it seems slightly unfair... to the UK tax payer!
