I've got an interrail trip planned next month, and I'm in Budapest for about 4 hours and Prague for a night.
Do you guys have any suggestions of what to see and do?
I'm not looking for train related stuff, but interesting sights to see etc

Prague Metro and Budapest Metro lines M2 & M3 are nuclear bunkers. The facade of Budapest Keleti Pu features statues of James Watt and George Stephenson. Budapest Nyugati Pu was designed by Gustav Eifell (yes that one) and features the nicest McDonald's I've ever been in. Prague Charles Bridge is very nice

Even though it is "train related" Budapest Metro line M1 is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and most of the stations retain their original 1890s appearance and features (properly maintained/restored). Towards the northern end of it is the Hősök tere (Heroes' Square) and City Park which I'd consider something of a "must see" for the city.

New metro line 4 in Budapest (Keleti-Kelenfold) is very impressive, particularly the decor.
There are some very impressive buildings in the centre and by the Danube.
In Prague, a tram ride (#22) up to the castle (Hrad) and walk back down to the river is dramatic, as is the walk across Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) and through the old town (Stare Mesto).
The castle buildings include the palace and cathedral, also the place where Prague's defenestrations occurred.
Both cities have fantastic music options and both have funiculars up to viewpoints (the castle in Buda and Petrin Hill in Prague (Mala Strana).

Depending on where the station is but there is a big river called the Danube in Budapest and possibly some road trams.

Was Edinburgh (South Sub) but more Strathspey now.
In Bp - are you in and out from the same station? Deli is on the Buda side. Keleti and Nyugati are in Pest.

Whatever - and assuming you arrive in Pest - get yourself to the Danube and see the castle and Fisherman’s Bastion, the Parliament, Gellert Hill and the Erzsi híd (Bridge). Walk over the Chain Bridge and, if it is day time and sunny, have an ice cream - always cheap and excellent. Climb to the castle if you have time, for ace views down on Pest. You could more or less reverse that if arriving into Deli.

Prague - walk across the Charles Bridge (Karluv Most), go up to the castle and inside the cathedral. Drink beer! Pay your respects to Palach in Wenceslas Square (which is actually a boulevard). Astronomical clock in the Old Town Square.

There is now a Prague tram 23 worked exclusively by Tatra T3s which covers the key section of the 22 route. And the old part of Hlavni station is worth a visit - it is signposted from the main subsurface concourse.

In Prague there's a statue of King Wenceslas riding an upside down dead horse in an arcade off Wenceslas Square (round the back of Marks and Spencer I think):

Probably metro - line 4 I think

Actually depends whether it's Buda or Pest centre - line 2 or line 4

Not really line 4. At least not in most people's books. You need the red line (2) to both Deak ter (considered by most to be the 'centre') and Kossuth ter (for parliament) and, if you want the sort of centre of Buda, you go to Szell Kalman ter, the penultimate stop before Deli (Southern) station.

Someone upthread suggested you try the so-called Funicular railway up to the Castle. I suggest it is one of the biggest rip-offs in Hungary, considering it is a 75m ride. You can catch a bus or walk up the hillside and get the same views. Despite this, scores of tourists queue like leemings to use it.

yes you are quite right line 2 - think I thought it was line 4 because that took us to where we were staying.
