During the first weekend of July (July 2nd and 3rd), NS will present their new ICNG (InterCity Next Generation) trains to the public for the first time.
While the trains are not in service yet (the current estimate is somewhere by the end of the fall/early winter this year), everyone is invited to check out the trains. There will be press event on the Saturday morning, and after that, there will be guided tours around the trainset. To give everyone enough time and space to check out the new train, a reservation is required.
Anyone interested can head over to the special event website. To reserve a tour, just click on Registreren (Register) and fill in your name, email address and the date/time you'd like to visit, and if you're bringing anyone along (max. 5 other people). That's it :)

Please note that it's just a simple look-around on board the train. There will be no special services running with these trains, or anything like that.

is that registering process due to covid restriction or standard in the Netherlands?
When the Desiro HC RRX trains where presented in Essen, Gemany, it was just come along as you please.

This event should have taken place last November already, but we got a ban on all events just a week or so before it would have happened. At that time the registering was because of covid regulations, that only allowed a certain number of visitors.
I'm not entirely sure why they decided to make a reservation mandatory this time, as we don't have any covid regulations left, but maybe they decided it would be better to regulate the flow a bit.

According to the event website, guided tours are being given. That obviously wouldn't work with too many people at the same time.

Yeah, but my answer is more in the sense of: the organisation could have just opened the trains, instead of giving a tour.
I might actually be one of the tour guides on (one of) those day(s).

Didn’t see an offer of a free ticket to Rotterdam to go & have look?
Or will they give similar tours in other parts of NL?
It’s well over two hours to get to R’dam. & that’s what those new trains will do - eventually.

I don't understand why you think that an event should provide free travel to/from the location.
And no, it's only in Rotterdam.
