They are also going after Easyjet and Domestic Flights with Ouigo, not sure how successful it will be long term.

One interesting model would be the Interconnex services in Germany. Intercity speed at Regional Express comfort for half the price of an ICE walk up fare. Book in advance and the fare is similar to the lowest ICE Sparpreise tickets.

One drawback is the service is much sparser then that of DB

Surely a MK3 isn't worth half a mil?! :o I mean, they might be if you approached a TOC who use them every day and wanted to buy their front line fleet, as they'd be in a bit of a predicament afterwards, but on the open market it'd be far less than that I'd have thought?

Which TOC (passenger services) own their own fleet then?

This suggests that they are all leased

Looks like all the HSTs are owned by Porterbrook

Not 100% sure on this but I think government owned Lloyds Bank have interest in this company

Risky business though, what happens if they lose the franchise

Suppose they could use them on other franchises they have

If the franchise competition of GW had gone as planned they might well have ended up leasing them to the new incumbent as the new company would still have need of them alternatively they would have probably sold them to a ROSCO. Now however with the delay meaning that the new franchise will be starting very shortly before (if not at the same time as) IEP begins to turn up that might not be such a good option.

That being said I'm not sure it's all that risky either way. I'd be surprised if they haven't recouped their costs by now so if they couldn't find someone to lease them to or a use with one of their other franchises (which I think is unlikely) it wouldn't be a disaster.

And it's not like the sets will have a £0 value anyway.
