Recently I had an interview for Revenue Protection Assistant based at Newcastle for TPE, which I unfortunately didn't get but was luckily put in the talent pool. The lady on the phone said that while I did really well they found someone who was a bit better which was the obvious choice for them to make, but if they had more positions available then I would've been the second choice. Regardless of the current circumstances I am still happy with the result, however, I still have a few questions.

Does being in a talent pool guarantee me a job in the 6 months that I'll be placed in it? I'm currently a student studying 3 days a week so I'm in no real rush to apply for more jobs, especially with the current circumstances. I'm thinking of holding off on applying for other TOCs as I'd really like to work for TPE, but this depends on if I'm guaranteed a position with them within the time I'm in the talent pool.

Any other advice from people who have been in talent pools for comparable roles is welcome.

Being in a talent pool absolutely does not guarantee a job in the future. It all depends on a vacancy coming up which probably means that someone else will have to move on before that happens. They are just as likely to keep you there for two years then drop you like a hot chip.
However its not unusual for the winning person to either not accept the job or drop out after a short period when they realise its not for them so there is a chance you could be lucky in the short term..

Now what? Wait.

There's no guarantee of a job and the pool could expire before a vacancy comes up. Pools can also be badly managed and sometimes a new vacancy comes up for the same role again and you can't get clarification on your current status... I'd recommend continue to apply for jobs.
