I currently use the PAYG on my Oyster card which also has my 16-25 Young Persons Card loaded onto it.

I currently get the 06.21am from Streatham to Wimbledon and then the 06.36 from Wimbledon to Surbiton.

The cost of the journey is £2.90 peak (06:30am to 09:30am) or £2.00 off-peak.

Im enquiring as to what the journey will cost. I tap in before the peak time starts but tap out during peak time. The same goes for my journey home.

There is a train at 19.02 from Surbiton, so if I tap in before 7pm, do I get charged for peak time or off-peak as it would be off-peak by the time I reach Streatham?

If you touch in Off-peak and finish your journey during the peak, you will be charged the off peak fare. Its all to do with what time you touch in.

The morning peak starts at 04:30, not 06:30.

The TfL website says the Oyster peak is 06.30 - 09.30 and 16.00 - 19.00 for this journey.

Thanks for the fast replys! Thanks for clarifying that JKJimar53, I was just looking at the timetables and figured I might as well wait for xx.12 train to Wimbledon, as I still make the xx.30 towards Streatham!

In some ways, but not others. Take a look at http://www.oyster-rail.org.uk/peak-or-off-peak/ from my site. The first two hours are charged at the off-peak rate, but count towards the peak price cap.

@Kareem: You definitely want to wait until off-peak on the way home because you'll then benefit from the 1/3 off because of your railcard.
