Does anyone know why if you try to buy a return ticket on the day of travel it only lets you collect from station, but if you select a pair of singles you get the usual e ticket option.

Just tried to buy Clapham Junction to Surbiton and got this today.

Any ideas how to get this sorted?

It varies from ticket to ticket and I am sure somebody on this forum will be able to tell us why.

For example, I can buy a Royston to Kings Cross off-peak day return as an e-ticket as well as a Royston to Cambridge ticket but not at weekends when the tickets are super off-peak. Also, I cannot buy a Royston to Ely ticket as an e-ticket but I can get a Cambridge to Ely ticket as an e-ticket.

The Clapham Junction to Surbiton Anytime Day Return is available as an eTicket on other sites although, obviously, without the Priv discount.

Each ticket type for each origin/destination/discount needs to be activated for e-ticket fulfilment by the owner of the flow. They probably omitted to activate your particular choice of ticket.

As stated, the Anytime Day Return is enabled for eTicket fulfilment.

Weer you trying to buy another ticket in the same transaction? If that was not available as an eTicket that would then apply to all tickets in the transaction.

No just this. I ended up just getting two singles.

I seem to recall having a similar issue last year with Haymarket-Glasgow off return when purchased same day.

I've just checked on Trainsplit, and only paper tickets are available. You may have been looking on Scotrail's app which might offer an mTicket, or on Trainline who do whatever they want.
Was it an any permitted or TOC specific ticket?
There are no TOC specific tickets for Haymarket to Glasgow (other than Club 50).

I was trying railstafftravel for the Clapham Junction to Surbiton journey theageofthetra was originally having issues with.

As you didn't quote anything it looked like you were referring to the OP's latest comments about Haymarket to Glasgow.

Because Scotrail haven't caught up with the idea of eTickets yet.
I do hope and wonder if they'll introduce them anytime soon because they have started to introduce massive paper tickets with QR codes on them when you buy from a conductor.

the whole thread is about RailStaff Travel (and only that website, for buying priv tickets and getting reservations) arbitrarily not offering a print-at-home option.
I have encountered this - for all sorts of English journeys - and haven't been able to make sense of when it works and when it doesn't.
I just tried Edb to Haymarket and it only offered a collect at station option.Screenshot 2023-06-06 at 18-49-54 AlternateDeliveryDetails.png

With clarification that in some cases it is because eTickets are simply not available, not matter when you book, which website you use orwhich discount you may be entitled to.

clearly etickets do exist for that journey.

There was also a comment from the OP about tickets between Haymarket and Glasgow which are not available as eTickets. Have you read the whole thread?

Is the Rail Staff Travel website not working for anyone else? Been like this the past 2 days and won't go past the journey planning stage.

Didn't work for me on Sunday but thankfully the train manager let me travel for free
Worked alright for me this morning, however I only got the "collect at station" option today and for the last 3 or 4 of the same journeys, despite having had the print at home before now. Seems completely arbitrary, as has been discussed in another thread.

I just went back through my emails... This time last year I got "You have chosen e-ticket, which means you are responsible for printing your own tickets" for exactly this journey so I don't accept that this is because e-tickets don't exist for it.
(I'm using Firefox.)
