Hindsight: Lord Beeching

Thursday 02 October
8:00pm - 8:30pm
BBC4

Eric Robson talks to Lord Beeching about his time as Chairman of the British Railways Board between 1961 and 1965, asking if he would have done things differently with hindsight.
Railway Walks

Thursday 02 October
8:30pm - 9:00pm
BBC4

The Peak Express

Julia Bradbury takes a series of walks following the old tracks, overgrown cuttings and ancient viaducts of Britain's lost rail empire. She begins her exploration of Britain's lost rail empire in Derbyshire, the heart of the Peak District, with a walk along the popular Monsal Trail. Limestone cliffs and gorges abound, not to mention the tunnels and soaring viaducts of the Midland Railway - one of the most dramatic and unlikely main lines ever built.

Ian Hislop Goes off the Rails

Thursday 02 October

9:00pm - 10:00pm
BBC4

Ian Hislop takes a look at the notorious Beeching Report of 1963, which led to the closure of a third of the nation's railway lines and stations and forced tens of thousands of people into the car and onto the road. He investigates the fallout from the plan, discovering what was lost to the British landscape, communities and ways of life when the railway map shrank. Ian travels from Cornwall to the Scottish borders meeting those responsible and those affected.

Great Railway Journeys

Thursday 02 October
10:00pm - 10:55pm
BBC4

Crewe to Crewe

Victoria Wood makes a round trip to the north of Britain from Crewe, taking in both the east and west coasts. On her way north she visits Carnforth station, location of the classic film Brief Encounter, takes the North West Regional Railways service across Morecambe Bay to Barrow and the Cumbrian Coastal line to Carlisle before reaching Thurso, the most northerly point possible by train. Her journey south takes in Edinburgh, the Forth Bridge, Middlesborough, Whitby, York and Adswood, Manchester.

Will be watching this, or at least recording it, or both probably. Looks like it could be interesting!

iPlayer's fantastic; and you don't need a TV license

I think it'll be interesting to see Dr. Beeching...

Ooh, tough luck Miles. Sky's much better (Sky1, and all the good channels, like Pitch TV, JML Direct, and Bidup.tv!). But Virgin gets free Setanta, and doesn't occasionally suffer from satellite interference.

Virgin Media is pretty dire, but not as bad as Tiscali: Imagine having this monstrosity in your house:

I'm now (forced to be) on Masterpoint which is actually really good, although there's no wireless.

Anyone know of any way to remove the 30days (DRM) from iplayer downloads?

Although I totally wouldn't condone it :D, I have seen threads related to the bbciplayer application which I believe uses the same methods. A quick google search seems to do the trick. ;)

My understanding is that it is not illegal to do it for your own use, but it is illegal to distribute the files.

Darandio, most of the links appear to be duds - MS must have patched it or something,

Listen, I know I started the whole TV discussion, but if we want to continue, I'll make a new thread.

Or if you're really serious, take it to TVForum.co.uk, where I'm a member under a name some people here may know me as (Brandon, I'm looking at you).

I'm not sure how Sky+ works. Sometimes it lets you and other times it says you must change the channel or cancel the recording. I've also have it say to me that I can't view the Guide or rewind my programme if it's doing three things at once.
