As the former ATS coaches of GTR's Class 319 are being rebuilt with DDA toilets etc, the brown toilet windows are removed and the resultant space on one side blanked off. On the other side where there is a row of single seats, a "standard" window is fitted in place of the single toilet window to match the rest of the coach.

I was wondering, where do these "spare" windows come from - are they from works spares or are other similar style vehicles of the period cannibalised?

I imagine they simply use the window from the plated up area and put it in the place of the old frosted window on the non-toilet side.

I think quite a lot of units which have had those new toilets fitted have lost a full size window, 150/156/320/321/322 all have large plated areas now so some may come from there.

No, the original toilet window is the same on both sides and is very different from its replacement. The replacement window matches those on the rest of the train

Unless their spares, could they not be re-using the ones removed from the ScotRail 320s which are having a full window removed with the new toilets going in?

My apologies, you are indeed correct. I thought the DDA toilet resulted in one side having only 4 'standard' windows.

I wish SWT had done so for their class 456s, which have a small window where the toilet used to be, resulting in a blank wall for the seats now installed there.

Also wouldn't there be a supply chain for the supply of new windows, as a window break on a train in service is not unheard of?
