On the wall of platforms above the track you see red sliding switches on white panels. What are they for?

I have noticed that at some stations there is a white sliding switch under the opposite facing platform, just out of curiosity could someone please tell me what it's for.

Platform railside boxes (edit: it's a datum plate!!)

I've wondered for many years what the boxes (pictured) do? The "sliders" seem to be adjusted to many different positions on each box and they seem to be fixed to most platform walls. Anyone put me straight, please?

Panel near train tracks (edit: it's a Datum plate!)

Hello. Adjacent to some tracks at stations (for example Bath Spa), there are what appear to be flat white panels with a red button. They are below the platforms. What are they? I cannot find any examples online but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Many thanks. Oliver.
