Got a trip to do from Redhill to Reading in June. One trip will be a day return, the other just a single.

Obviously there is the FGW direct service, but is this the cheapest option on the day return and also the single? I do have an Oyster if that is a cheaper option.

All tickets between Reading and Redhill are routed Via Gomshall so I doubt you have much choice.

Oyster is not accepted on the direct route between Redhill & Reading, despite being valid on some buses to both Redhill and Dorking, so unless you have some idea which involves using an Oyster-based Travelcard around Clapham Junction and maybe some Boundary Zone fares of some sort, it won't be of any use.

In the highly unlikely event that one of the infrequent XC trains to Guildford can be of use to you between Reading & Guildford (or vice versa), you may be able to split & use a cheap Advance on one or two of their trains. BR Fares displays some attractive tiered pricing options, but I am not sure about quotas - or, dare I say it, even the feasibility of discovering the actual "real-life" existence of some of those fares.
