A BBC News report of a trespassing incident at Redhill mentions all the trains disrupted, except, as usual, the GWR North Downs line, which is usually forgotten about!

Train services in Surrey have been disrupted due to a trespasser at Redhill station.

Southern Rail said, external on Saturday evening that all lines were blocked, with no trains running between Purley and Gatwick Airport via Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill, Earlswood and Horley.

Thameslink, external services between Purley and Gatwick Airport were also affected.

Southern added that the disruption was also affecting trains travelling between Redhill and Tonbridge and Reigate and London Victoria.

Bit difficult for the BBC to get the info - GWR are blaming "a shortage of train crew" for cancellations and their X aka Twitter is unstaffed owing to illness.

Yes, I wasn't necessarily blaming the BBC per se, but the railway's information dissemination. The NDL is often/usually ignored in this sort of circumstance. The coincidence of the line closure and the GWR cancellations makes a nonsense of crew shortage claims!

The ones that were cancelled were cancelled all the way from Reading and listed as cancelled hours before. I don't see why they'd blame crew shortage (their fault) rather than a tresspass incident (out of their control). Looking at realtime trains, there were some delays to the GWR services through the area but not as much as the other operators.

What was more unacceptable was that it was the stopping services on the eastern end that were cancelled without additonal stops added to faster trains, meaning Gomshall and Chilworth only had one westbound train all evening (no trains between 17:00 and 22:00)

Perhaps information dissemination should be down to Network Rail rather than the TOCs. As TOCs aren't going to know or be bothered about other TOCs in their area, and the TOC involved might not be particularly bothered about the little hourly service on the fringe of their area

Always an issue at Redhill, as you have to look at 3 websites to find info, Southern, Thameslink and GWR - often they will not repeat each others news. It is infuriating, although occasionally Southern and Thameslink issue joint releases but not as often as you'd think considering they are the same company.
