On my way back home yesterday, the bus stop I need to get off at was closed. There was no announcement on the bus that the bus stop was closed. So I had to get off at the next stop and take a bus back. What are my chances if I submit a complaint to get my £1.75 refunded?

Did you show your ticket to the driver on the second bus and explain your situation? If so, what was his advice?

Tickets are not issued for travel on TfL buses, aside from Travelcards and bus passes. The only record would be on Oyster or contactless. Unless they still do transfers for if the bus terminates short, but I don't know if these can be issued for this situation, and it's the driver of the first bus that would need to issue it.

I'm confused why the OP was charged, in any case - wouldn't it have been a free second tap within the hour? Or was the journey quite long?

You may find persuading TfL that you needed to get a bus back something of a challenge unless there are special circumstances.

Whilst it may have been annoying and / or inconvenient to have to walk back, the distance between most bus stops in London is 300 - 400 metres according to london.gov.uk

Likewise where is the proof that the stop which was closed was the stop you intended to get off at?

When a stop is closed for example for roadworks, an alternative temporary stop is often provided.

Negligible, especially as the bus back will almost certainly have been free under the bus hopper scheme.

I have never seen a replacement stop provided in all of the roadworks in my local area, with all notices telling me to use the previous or next stop, and I have also recently submitted a complaint to TfL when the bus skipped the closed stop I intended to get off without announcement as well.

What if the bus he took was an express bus, and the closed stop was the one just before the motorway?

I have seen replacement stops provided and during my time spent working for a bus operator we were certainly provided with replacement stops when the original stop was closed most memorably when stops on Fulham Broadway near Stamford Bridge were / are closed because Chelsea FC are playing at home.

Obviously each case would be looked at on its own merits but the complainant would have to do more than just simply state that they wished to get off at xxx but the bus sailed past. IIRC all London buses now have in bus cctv so the footage could be reviewed to determine whether the complainant pressed the stop button or got up from their seat. If my stop was missed I would almost certainly press the button numerous times so the driver was alerted to an issue and then walk down the aisle to speak to him. This would be recorded on the cctv.

Are there any express buses like this in the TfL area? (Genuine question - I know there have been some route innovations in recent years)
and the closed stop was the one just before the motorway?
Would the journey time to the next stop lead to exceeding the 'hopper' time allowance?

I know this is your obsession with regard to bus services, but they basically don't exist in London. (There's Superloop, but that doesn't so far as I know have long stop spacings nor significant (or any?) motorway sections).

That's not how TfL buses work. They don't do tickets

What time did you get on the first bus, and what time did you get on the second bus? If they were both within an hour, and you used the same method of payment, you won't be charged for the second journey anyway

I suppose you can substitute in a scenario where the person was on their second bus having already benefited from the transfer rule and their 62 minutes had expired, but we’re already assuming a load of things possibly unnecessarily.
