So they can be used when the building is closed?
But if the building is closed you've got to go over the Victoria Street bridge to the main station building anyway where there are more machines and the booking office. It just struck me as odd they'd not been moved!

There is a small passage way, with a card reader - presumably that could be open when the building is closed, and the ticket machines then are useful?

Lets see how it affects platform congestion, especially in the evening peak.
It can only help. Once commuters cotton on, it may also even out the congestion on the trains, as they now have two distinct exits to position themselves for. Though when I travelled (till 2019), it was packed solid throughout anyway!

For the busiest trains - down fast services in the evening peak, there are already two. Now there’s three ;)

Edit - used it tonight. Very quiet on the trains so not many other people around, but a few did use it, which given it was ‘unadvertised’ is good news.

A friend used it during Tuesday evening rush after unexpectedly funding it open. He used it to get to the ‘City Centre’ side exit and reported that it definitely shaved a min or two off of his exit - he was very happy.

Excellent - maybe an email via GTR to the Station Manager might assist. Noted with some relief the contractors are clearing the works compound. To be fair they have been very decent in helping us at the signal box out.
