They're the former Royal Mail platforms or similar I believe. Very, very rarely, but it does happen, used for passenger services.

Ah thanks for that - I did notice the huge Royal Mail Depot adjacent to that side of the Station.

RES = Rail Express Systems, someone will have better details but it was formed before Privatisation alongside the other Trainload sectors, but focussed on post trains.

It was used last for passengers during the Lytham Open Golf tournament in 2012 as far as I know. They ran a shuttle to and from Ansdell and Fairhaven.

I seem to remember they erected some fences to keep people away from the sidings at either end.

When it is used for passenger services it is known as Platform 0, and access is only via the subway. It was originally a passenger platform before electrification/resignalling.

Known as the PCD (Parcels Concentration Depot) officially. When the golf open was at Ansdell & Fairhaven in 2012 the platform indicators showed it as 'RES' rather than 0. Originally the PCD was platform 2 (platform 1 was behind and is now South Siding No.3 and North Bay) before being taken out of passenger use, the line itself is now the Down and Up Goods.
