I have just downloaded openBVE on my computer, which has Windows 7.

To my complete amazement, it actually worked. I was expecting a struggle, but I got it done first time, which is unusual for me, considering my awful history with installation processes.

The only problem is, I don't have any routes to drive. I was going to get the Underground routes off trainsimcentral, but it appears that the website is down.

So, does anyone know where I can pick some routes up (and some trains).
Also, when I download them, do I just need to move them to the route/railway folder?

This site has some good quality routes, and I am a bit stuck for other options especially as BVE Routes and Trains is now closed. http://www.eezypeazy.co.uk/
And for your second question, yes, all you need to do is go into the OpenBve folder and choose the applicable place.

I've downloaded the routes, but where am I supposed to put them? There are all these folders but I don't know where they go.

Just put a "Railway" folder and a "Train" folder in your OpenBVE folder. Then install them to that location.

Folders made, I'll be back in five!

Update
Computer playing up. Refusing to allow extractions. Have restarted the bloody thing without notifications, but to no avail.

Given up. Deleted the game and the files. I haven't a clue what I'm supposed to be doing, nor how half the operations work.

Not sure what will work and what won't because I believe NWM used the signal download form Trainsimcentral. I did ask a question about it in the other thread and although I have no interest in the politics that seem to be happening in BVE world, the thread was locked before I could get an answer. :(

The new NWM packages have it all included afresh, re-written for BVE. NWM downloads now only support oBVE and not 2/4/5. They may work backwards with them but it is not supported or tested.

There is Oovee as well. http://www.oovee.co.uk/en/freebies/bve

Not sure whether they work in OpenBVE, it says they don't but they may well do now.

They do but not very well depending on what OS you use. With windows they should be fine.

Sympathise with your situation here HST Power, OpenBve is a pain to install. Had to enlist my son to help me!:oops:

Don't forget the new latest openBVE puts the Railway and Train folders in a different location under X:\Documents And Settings\User\Application Data or Local Settings (I can't remember which and am not on Windows)

You did download Tao, SDL, Open AL etc that are listed beneath as well?

Oh yes, I certainly did those!

A pain? It's an absolute nightmare!

I don't have children, but there's a fellow rail simulator enthusiast in my office, I might be able to ask him to give me a helping hand. Come to think of it, I should probably refer him to this forum!

That was another problem I was having. I couldn't seem to locate the right folders.

I'm surprised that openBVE doesn't come with trains and routes.

There's a 7zip archive that you can download and extract to the OpenBVE folder that allows you to put trains and routes in respective folders in the main directory.
As I'm on my iPhone I can't link to it but it's on the installation for Windows page IIRC.

Hope this helps!

I'm currently at work on my office computer (which I can't run BVE or install non-related software on) so can you please add the link later? Thanks very much! :)

Here's the text with the link I was on about this morning (taken from http://trainsimframework.org/downloads.html):

"Please note that all userdata is now by default stored in an operating-system-specific user directory, not in the install directory. If you want to store your userdata in the install directory, extract this patch into your install directory."

I have well and truly given up. It's like trying to get blood from a stone. I haven't had such a hard time installing software since I did coding work for DRIV3R.

Did you download the 7zip program ?

Downloaded it, installed it, it crashes. Error messaging reporting software problem.

UPDATE

I have reinstalled the game. It worked. Now lets play my least favorite game and work out where to put downloaded content!!!!!

The trains from BVE Routes & Trains will be hosted on the BVE4 website ;) (BVE4 provides OpenBVE trains too ;) )

I did everything as told....

....but the route wouldn't load. I have an error message.

The train worked fine though.

So close, yet so far.

I will attempt to re-download the routes later.
