I thought there where a few spare HST power cars hanging around somwhere? Some of the bodywork on those MK3's looks a bit crooked, most of the ones ive seen are very smart

Excellent photo; you were lucky! I wonder what it's like onboard the 'Royal Train.'

Think amongst the consist is a carriage for Lizzie, a carriage for Phil the racist Greek and I think their idiot eldest son has his own carriage for when he uses the train (it doesn't get used by any of the others unless they're accompanying Liz, Phil or Charlie).

Pre-posting edit: there's a full list of the carriage fleet post 1977 here. From that, current carriages are:
2903 HM The Queen's lounge, bedroom and bathroom
2904 HRH The Duke of Edinburgh's lounge, bedroom and bathroom
2915 Royal Household sleeping car
2916 Royal Family dining car with kitchen
2917 Royal Household dining car with kitchen
2920 Royal Household couchette, diesel generator & brake van
2921 Royal Household couchette, kitchen & brake van
2922 HRH The Prince of Wales's sleeping car
2923 HRH The Prince of Wales's saloon.

"Royal Household" will include their protection officers.

There are two more Household Cars; 2918 and 2919.

Quite a few of these are capital stock conversions, so a few of the older carriage bashers may just have the haulage of them!

2903 is ex-11001
2904 is ex-12001
2916 is ex-40512
2917 is ex-40514
2918 is ex-40515
2919 is ex-40518
2920 is ex-17109 ( 14109 prior to that )
2921 is ex-17107 ( 14107 prior to that )

Nice Pictures.
I understand HM does travel on the service trains fairly often from London to Norfolk when she is going Sandringham and also used FGW when travelling to Wales a year or so ago. I wonder how she went to Cardiff this week to open the Welsh Assembley?. She and other members of the Royal family do use regular trains from time to time. I heard that as the Royal Train is an extra service it has to be slotted in between the service trains which can mean delays or longer journeys. I think the present train was built in the 1970s.
