Championship Play-off Final

Leigh Centurions 44 ... Batley Bulldogs 12

This win sees Leigh making a quick return to the top flight, scoring eight tries, one of which was scored by the son of the coach.
One other RL result of note from yesterday...

League One Play-Off Final

Swinton Lions 16 Doncaster 10.

A close, competitive game which saw a Jack Hansen try in the corner just as the final hooter sounded to secure promotion to the Championship for the home side.

Seems that West Wales Raiders (League One) have withdrawn and won't now be playing next season (2023).

Extract of story...
The Club stated: “It’s with great sadness that we have to write this but the West Wales Raiders will not be competing within the RFL professional league in the 2023 season.

Betfred Super League

Leigh Leopards 10 ... Salford Red Devils 20

A new league season sees Leigh back in the top flight with a name change from Centurions to Leopards and a home "Derby" match against Salford with quite afew new faces but Salford led 12-4 at half time and went on to start off the new season with a win despite being a player down for much of the second half.

What an amazing attendance at that game - 8,389! I hope Leigh can do well this season.

Leigh Leopards 30 ... Castlefield Tigers 6

Leigh, since returning back to the Super League this season, have been quite a good side under Adrian Lam's tutelage. This match at Leigh Sports Village against Castlefield Tigers was well fought in the first half by both sides and that was shown in the 6-6 half time score. The second half was totally different in character and the final scoreline reflected the Leigh dominance in that half, with Leigh winning the try count 5-1.

This win shows Leigh now in 6th place in the league.

Another one today, albeit this time in the (second tier) Betfred Championship...

Swinton Lions 19 Toulouse Olympique 12.

Big game coming up on Sunday in Betfred One - Dewsbury v Doncaster. Both sides have won every league game they've played so far this season - Dewsbury 7 and Doncaster 6. Come on, Donny!

Betfred Challenge Cup

Salford Red Devils 42 ... Huddersfield Giants 40

A good typical cup-tie with Huddersfield in with a chance up to the end, after Salford had led 24-16 at half-time. It was the goalkicking that separated the two sides, as both teams scored seven tries. Salford converted all their tries, but Huddersfield only converted six of theirs.

Rather than being a stereotypical game of "two halves", this was more a game of "four quarters". Salford were 24-0 up at one stage in the first half, before Huddersfield clawed it back to 24-16 at half time and then 24-22 early into the second half.

Salford then raced away again to go 42-22 up, before Huddersfield made it 42-40 with just two minutes remaining, and the Giants might possibly have won it in the dying seconds had it not been for some desperate home defending.

The Red Devils' "reward" for the win is an away trip to Hull KR in the quarter-finals in mid June.

Two of the Friday night results.....

Leigh Leopards 28 ... Hull FC 16

This was an eight win in a row for Leigh, who led 16-10 at half-time, winning the try count 5 to 3.
This win takes Leigh up to third place in the league table.

Castleford Tigers 10 ... Salford Red Devils 42

Salford led 24-10 at half time, but put in a strong second-half performance scoring a further 18 unanswered points, winning the try count 8 to 2.
This win takes Salford up to fourth place in the league table.

It has been a most amazing season for Leigh Leopards in their return back to the top flight with a change to their former name and culminating in a win in the Challenge Cup Final over a good Hull Kingston Rovers side by the margin of the dropped goal by Lam Junior when the score was level at 16-16. Lam Senior, has guided the team and must have been delighted by the success this season, especially in the league results in the second half of the season.

Leigh have been fantastic all season, and Lam has coached them really well.Amazing that he has turned around some of the “bad apples” from their near neighbours.A great game too,and it was good to see a couple of different teams in the final.

Huddersfield Giants 8 ... Salford Red Devils 32

Salford finally ended their losing streak of six consecutive matches in this away match.. Both sides were careless in first-half possession and it was only 8-12 at half time, but the second half saw Salford much improved and they scored twenty unanswered points. Salford won the try count 5-1.

Was at Old Trafford (as a neutral) and it was a good game with a fantastic atmosphere. A very tight first half followed by Wigan dominating field position in the second half. Thoroughly enjoyed myself despite not really being a League fan.

Wigan Warriors just about shaded it, and took full advantage of Catalans Dragons having twice being temporarily reduced to 12 men, to go 2-0 up, then 8-2 up, this after a couple of separate sin-binning offences by the Frenchmen. A late penalty then sealed the Wigan win.

Salford Red Devils 17 ... Hull KR 10

Hull KR had won their first two matches of this new season and must have fancied their chances of yet another win. However, Salford scored two first half tries and led 12-0 at half time. Hull KR applied better pressure after the break and scored two tries. It was the kicking ability of Mark Sneyd who made the difference overall and Salford registered their second win in three games.

Betfred Super League

St Helens 20 ... Salford Red Devils 24

This Friday night game was Salford's first win away at St Helens over the last 44 such matches. St Helens controlled matters in the first half and were 14-6 up at half time. St Helens added another try soon after the break to increase their lead to 20-6 and then came the turning point of the game, as a St Helens player was red-carded for an illegal challenge and Salford now with a man advantage upped the performance and scored three converted tries to record a notable win.
