Looking at the most recent station usage data from the ORR, it appears that there was exactly one interchange at Runcorn East last year. What valid journeys are there for which the quickest route would involve changing trains here?

Ellesmere Port and the two parliamentary service stations between there and Helsby to / from Manchester Victoria and stations to Leeds via Rochdale and Bradford? It's only once per day but around fifty minutes quicker than via Birkenhead, Lime Street and Manchester Victoria for Ellesmere Port – Bradford Interchange.

Interestingly it’s been 0 every year except
3 in 2008/09
1 in 2015/16
5 in 2019/20
1 in 2020/21
4 in 2021/22
and the aforementioned 1 in 2022/23

Maybe an Manchester TFW to a Leeds Northern service?

Which would make more sense being at Warrington considering Runcorn East sees only a handful of northern services calling there.

Maybe someone travelling from Frodsham to say St Helens Junction? The Ellesmere Port - Helsby - Liverpool doesn't call at Frodsham so Runcorn East might get thrown up as the interchange rather than at Warrington?

Interchange figures are always going to be "guiesswork" to a certain extent.

I sometimes do that so the figures might just be me!
