Next month I will be staying in Dresden, and will probably make several day trips using a Sachsen Ticket. I understand that it is valid on most tram systems in Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Thüringen, but I can't find any reference to it on the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe website.

I will be staying near the terminus of one of the tram routes. Does anyone know if you can buy a Sachsen Ticket from the machines at tram stops in Dresden? If not, I will either have to pay extra for a single tram ticket, buy my Sachsen Tickets in advance of the day I want to use them, or download the DB app.

Also, do you know if the Sachsen Ticket is valid on the Dresden Bergschwebebahn, and on trams in Bad Schandau and Görlitz?

I will also be staying one night near Papiermühle, between Gera and Jena, and the next day I will be catching an Erfurter Bahn train and hopefully exploring part of the Thüringer Waldbahn.

Can anyone confirm that you can buy the Thüringen Ticket from the machines on board Erfurter Bahn trains (their website seems to indicate that you can), and if so, do the machines accept cards and/or notes, or only coins?

The Thüringer Waldbahn website says it is part of the Verkehrsverbund Mittelthüringen, so I presume you can use a Thüringen Ticket on it?

I cant see the info on the DVB website, but the two above cover it.

Exclusions include the Bergbahnen and the Kirnitschtalbahn but not the Goerlitz trams or the TWB. The ferries at Bad Schandau etc ARE covered though, which is useful.

Dresden ( and Goerlitz) tram machines don't sell the ticket, but you can buy them in advance at DB automats (or online).

There must be some ticket provision on EB routes and sister vehicles on GTR definitely have machines or humans! A human on the morning Zwickau-Cheb.

I've very recently used one but can't swear to what they accept - however, you'd be safer with notes than a CC as many German machines only accept EC or Geldkarte.
Or if you absolutely don't like paying cash, buy online and self-print.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your travels - definitely visit Goerlitz and Kirnitschtal, and remember a ST gives you almost-free travel on the Zittau NG.
