I'm making a "pilgrimage" to admire it (along with a GWR HST ride while I still can), having never been to the area. Plan involves travel to PLY. May I have suggestions for good places to enjoy a view of the bridge? Street names would be great, and travel hints from Plymouth even better. I might even walk.

Many Thanks - Morpethcurve

Is this the royal Albert bridge?

If so there is a car park on the Plymouth side that offers nice views as does the riverside on the Cornwall side. There is a brightly painted pub down there to aim for

The best plan, of course, would be to take the train on to Saltash so that you can ride over the Royal Albert Bridge to give it its official title. From the station you can descend to the waterfront (Albert Road) to get a grand view of the bridge or alternatively walk the short distance uphill towards the town and then double-back over the road bridge (available to pedestrians) to get an excellent parallel view. The Union Inn (externally painted with a Union Jack) on the waterfront is a dive - the Two Bridges Inn immediately by the station has new owners I understand, so it may be worth a call. Trains calling at Saltash are fairly spasmodic at present (much improved from May), so it may be necessary to go / return by bus. Stagecoach Route 2/2A has a 10 min frequency during the day from Plymouth Rly Sta (bus stop on the main Saltash Road outside the station) over the Tamar Road Bridge to / from Saltash Fore Street.

If you are coming all the way from Morpeth and have never visited the area before, I’d advise taking a trip from Plymouth to Liskeard and back. You would go over the bridge of course, and there are some lovely views of it and the river from the train on the Cornish side. Go by HST, assuming you still can, and you can lower the door drop light to avoid having to take a photo through glass. For scenery, I’d say that Plymouth to Liskeard is the best part of the Cornish main line.

From what I remember, there’s a car park at the Plymouth end of the road bridge and you can walk onto it & get decent photos of the rail bridge. Have a look at Google Street View to get an idea.

Many thanks for the deluge of useful information. Streetview should have been my first option....
