Hi everyone, wondering if anyone has any knowledge on the application process for on train hospitality assistant?

I applied for the role in September. Interviewed in early December. Got a knock back, but an email to say that my performance at the interview was to a good standard and they will keep me on file. At this stage, I thought they were letting me down gently.

However, last week I had an email from HR asking for my passport. Then came a letter inviting me to take a medical assessment online. This seems very promising to me, but I thought I'd wait for a few days before contacting them to see what it's about. Does anyone have any knowledge of how they go about hiring people for on train hospitality? Does it sound like I'm in with a good chance?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

Not sure why you've "waited a few days" as these jobs will be filled fast. If you don't respond you've got no chance . Hospitality staff are often recruited through Blue Arrow agency with no guarantee of hours or might be a full time job. Make sure you check which it is.

Thanks for the reply. It's not an agency job, it's a full time position with scotrail that I applied for. The email that I received from HR didn't give much away, it just said 'prior to your application can you please scan in your passport'. I thought they might just be updating their systems so didn't make much of it. Then the medical assessment letter came through. I've got no idea whether they're considering offering me a job or not.

*edit- I scanned the passport and completed the medical assessment right away and asked if there's anything else they needed by the way. Just in case folk think I've not replied to them.

They won't do a medical assessment unless they are seriously considering offering a job. It's always the last part of the process.

Cheers, I'll take that as a good sign then! It was only an online medical assessment so not as promising as one at the doctors, but I'm feeling hopeful.

Surprised they've got back to me after a few months. If I hear anything else I will update for other people in a similar position.

These jobs are generally used by people as a stepping stone to other jobs once they've got their foot in the door, theres always a high turnover of staff in these positions.

Update. I was offered the job last week and I'm happy as larry. I start at the end of this month. Think it's a good foot in the door on the railway as well.
Didn't expect to get the job 5 months after the interview, but just shows that they do actually revisit applications.
